What are the best places to eat lunch? We interviewed multiple Doherty High School students, and their responses were quite varied. We had three students vote for Louie’s pizza: Marynn Krull, Gracie Baker, and Mia Cliff.

“Sonic is the bomb!” Sydney Houston and Prince Ghee agreed on that! 5 Guys rocks Jayla-Renee Revello’s world. For Mikayla Captain, breaks is an all day round meal, making The Breakfast Shack her favorite! Zoe Roberts says that “Travelli’s is quick, yummy and within walking distance.”

Ensuring that kids get back in time to eat and get to class is top priority. Going off campus is fun yes, but not when it impedes with the learning of our students. Taco Bell is Alex Long’s favorite place to eat because he loves their burritos!

For kids who are allowed to go off campus at Doherty High School, going to grab a bite to eat with friends can be fun and a great way to make more connections. Although, it’s definitely not the thing to do everyday due to the expense and health issues.

Eventually, we made our way to the Theatre Department, where we got more opinions on the topic. Victoria Smith says, “ I bring my own lunch because it’s cheap and I don’t have my driver’s license.” Alejandro Vega “I like Popeyes… although I’d eat at IHOP forever.” There are various places that people love to eat, but some are just fine with the school lunch.

There are 1,952 students that attend Doherty High school as of September 13, 2019, and roughly 480 of them go off campus, according to Scott Patrick, a security guard at Doherty. No freshmen are allowed off campus, which was misunderstood earlier this year, but apparently the rules have not changed.

Going off for lunch everyday like some students do can cost you at least $20.00 a week, which may not sound like much, but in the end it all adds up. By the end of the school year, you will have spent nearly $3,600 not including the gas it takes to get there or if you spend more than $20.00. Not to mention the unhealthy food that you are consuming on a daily basis, although some may eat healthy but the vast majority go to fast food places which time and time again have been proven to have very negative effects on your health.

According to “Health Line,”junk foods are everywhere. You see them in vending machines, rest stops, stadiums, and hotels … junk foods are high in calories, but low in nutritional value. In general, these foods include processed and prepared snack foods with long, often unpronounceable ingredient lists. “ Fast Food is a type of junk food which means that consuming it can have major effects on your health and weight gain. “Consuming excess sugars and fats found in these foods can contribute to weight gain. This excess weight is associated with diabetes. One of the top risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes is being overweight. When you carry too much fat tissue, especially around your midsection, your body’s cells can become resistant to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that moves sugar out of your blood and into your cells.”
