What is FCCLA exactly? FCCLA is all about Family, Career, and the Community Leaders of America, and Technical Student Organization for Young People in Family and Consumer Science. This club is available for everyone, and FCCLA offers their leadership and develops the skills for life planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and communication. This club overall wants their members to have personal growth and leadership skills from family and consumer science education. The skills can be important in developing creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. The club FCCLA is a national program that is in 47 states and originally began back in 1945. It was called FHA, Family Homemakers of America and was later changed into what we now know as FCCLA. FCCLA became a club for Doherty High School about 15 years ago.

The two teachers in charge of the club are Ms. Ager and Ms. Flemr. This club is currently discussing the time and date, but ever since the pandemic, FCCLA’s group has had very low participation. But the club is always open for new members.

Can this help with college? “Yes! This can definitely help with college but this can also apply to many career paths,” said Ms.Ager. What FCCLA does is many fun activities, community service, and getting ready for competitions.

This club can overall help the school with getting the life skills you will need to help you with the future. “Members develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation.” FCCLA is a good way to learn new skills and to help you for the future.
