Spartans Compete Despite Safety Protocols
October 9, 2020
It looked for awhile like all sports might be cancelled this year due to safety protocals, but after a summer of back and forth from CHSSA, four sports managed to compete this fall, and all are wrapping up their 2020 season. Football was also given the green light late in the year, and they are prepping for their first game on October 10. The seasons are not very long, butstudents mostly seemed grateful to even have one. Cross country is doing very well this season as well as the boys golf team! The softball team has been struggling a bit, but overall the team is having fun!

In cross country the top four girls so far are Juniors Kendall Windsor, Lara Blizzard, Kayla Thresher, and Freshman Addi Leasure. The boys season will end on September 30th. Unless any of the golfers qualify for state! The state tournament is in the first week of October.
Girls Softball
Girls Varsity Softball has wrapped up; the team had a very tough season and went 0-16. Softball had just gotten the new coach Shanell Costa. The two captains are Senior Jasmine Costa and Sophmore Ahmahnney Sago. Softball team members said they still had fun despite their losses and how short the season was. “ The season was very short, but I had so much fun and I am honored to play with such great people” said sophomore Jasmine Weeden.
Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team only had 9 matches vs. 12 for this season. The team was one of the very few teams that participated in three tournaments. The team was barely filled with 12 players. What was unique is that some of the players had just picked up a racket at the start of the season. The roster consisted of 11 players. They had one very bright spot in 1-singles,Vaughn Briggs. Vaughn went undefeated finishing the season going 15-0 and was selected as Colorado Springs Prep Player of the week in september! “We are very thankful to have a season to compete” Mr. Shepard said. After graduation this year tennis will only be losing three seniors so that should benefit the team.
