Krispy Kreme plans to construct a 3,547-square-foot outlet, at 5790 S. Carefree Circle, where an empty Village Inn is, according to a proposal submitted to city government planners.

The project’s application is under review by City Planning Staff. Krispy Kreme previously had a store by The Citadel Mall, built in 2002. However, the store closed just 4 years later in 2006.

Founded in 1937, by Vernon Rudolph in North Carolina, Krispy Kreme steadily gained popularity, and there are now over 1,000 stores worldwide. There are 3 stores in Colorado, all of which are in the Denver metro region.

Eden Hanson, a Doherty High School junior, offered her input on the news,“ I don’t care, I  don’t like donuts, they’re high in sugar.”

Are you excited about the new Krispy Kreme moving into Colorado Springs?
