Spartans it is election season! Here at The Spartan, we believe that everyone deserves a voice, and the value that reporting news has on society today. In acting on this mission, we sat down with every candidate running for the 2023-2024 Cabinet, so that he/she can introduce themselves and share their platform. Voting is during 2nd – 6th period in front of the Spartan Room on April 21, 2023. Enjoy knowing who is on the ballot and happy voting!

About the Candidate:
Q: What is your name and what position are you running for?
A: My name is Ryan Maccagnan, and I am running for Secretary of Morale.

Q: Can you describe yourself and your personality?
A: I am 17 years old, and I am professional gymnast. I am currently ranked number one in the US, I travel all over the US and all over the world compete for Team USA. My hobbies include playing golf in my free time, coaching at my gym that I train at, and I enjoy building things. I just love being able to encourage everyone so that is why I am running from morale.

Q: What do you enjoy about Doherty?
A: That it feels like a family. As chaotic as things can be sometimes, it feels like everyone is one big family and I can appreciate that.

Experience:
Q: Have you been in student council before, if not what is something like it that you have been involved in?
A: I have been in student council representative all my years of high school.

Q: What have you experienced that makes you a good candidate for the position?
A: Inside of school, I take charge of in group projects in student council. Outside of student council, but still in school, again group projects taking the lead and making sure everyone is where they are supposed to be. Outside of school, I have been designated to basically be morale for Team USA at international competitions.

Goals/Vision:
Q: What is Doherty’s biggest problem and how would you fix it?
A: Doherty’s biggest problem is just the number of fights that happen, and just people butting heads all the time. It is honestly saddening, coming from the background I have everyone respects everyone, yes there is disagreement, but they resolve it and move on.

Q: What do you think the position you running for entails?
A: Basically, it is the cheerleader of the student section. They push the sports teams, give them an extra boost. Let them know your Spartans are behind you, you got this.
