The long lasting AP Scholar honor has stepped up a notch with a vast wall full of names above the senior commons, about 54 names lie up there with praise from their previous AP testing In May of 2023. The school will continue to honor The AP Scholars in advancing ways.
The lowest achievement to be recognized would be the completion of three or more AP tests all with a three or higher. The highest achievement is a score of three or higher on AP Seminar and AP Research with an additional four exams. The honor used to come from a short knock on the recipient’s classroom door and a yard sign to stick on their lawn. Much has changed since then.
Lana Flenniken principal of Doherty High School adds, “Instead of doing that this year we have decided to put up the AP Scholar wall as five levels.”
“We ran into some issues for a vendor,” says Flenniken, and that’s why the wall has been just put up now. They are going to change that this year hopefully recognizing AP Scholars in May when the tests are taken.
Wryan Sutton 24′ adds, “Well I first learned about AP Scholar awards through Ms. Reagan, my AP Research teacher. She really motivated all of us to try and get the award so I tried my best hoping to get one of the awards I was shocked I got the award but I was also really excited.” She is on the wall more than two times and will hopefully crush her AP exams this May.
Even people who aren’t up there have a say in the discussion, “I recognize Sarah Eichman because it’s really hard to get a three or higher on four or more exams let alone one, so I am going to strive for that this year,” says Addie Zaiger 26′
Many people are ecstatic about the advancements in the AP Scholar award and want to strive to be seen on the wall above the senior commons. This is only the first year out of many these students will be recognized. So get out there Spartans and crush your exams.
