Did you have a rough year in school? Are you behind on your work and need time to get caught up before the new school year starts? Then summer school might be for you.
Summer school is usually depicted as bad. However, many things could happen where you would use this brilliant opportunity to get caught up with your schoolwork and acquaintances. This is ideal because you can earn credits you are nervous about not getting. Or if there is a big gap in your attendance, it could help you get back to learning effectively.
For example, for one of the tougher subjects like math, you must be there frequently to thrive in it. Now if you were absent for a prolonged period, this could stunt your growth, and this could happen on multiple occasions. Now when you’re in this situation you either get the grade up or pass when you come back. If you can’t, that’s when summer school steps in, giving you more time to catch up academically.
In District 11 there are three different ways of summer school. Summer Bridge is the most popular, held at Doherty High School in two week chunks, making it possible to get the one or two credits you missed. However, there is only up to Algebra 3 for math.
Samir Vargas states,“They should try to expand the math for summer school because it would be beneficial for the people that need their math credits.” There are also two other alternatives. One is at Tesla Opportunity School. Which is 3.3 miles which is 9 minutes away from Doherty High School. You can get three credits for three weeks. There is also an online alternative as well which is self-paced. Talk to your counselor for more information.
