Esports are coming to Doherty. The Esports Club will be an up-and-coming club at Doherty High School, with Super Smash Bros. Ultimate & Mario Kart 8 Deluxe after school hours. It will also be a place to meet up with other players to play these online games at home, such as Rainbow 6 Siege, Fortnite, Splatoon 3, & more, this is to train for the High School Esports League (HSEL).
The club will be assigned to a room before the end of the 1st quarter, Nintendo Switches will be provided at the club, controllers may be available, but it is suggested to bring your own. We’re expected to be playing against other schools in the district if they start clubs up at their schools as well, our current Smash player lineup is as follows:

HSEL will be starting January 13th, 2025, with their Winter Blitz season lasting until February 7th, the Spring Premier & the Spring Major start February 3rd & 10th respectively. Some games are available for both seasons but most are available for only one. During the Winter, Smash will be doubles instead of singles, so if you want to play during that time, then make sure you have a partner.
For the duration of 2024, we will be learning how to better ourselves in the game, but also practicing how we can balance gaming with schoolwork in a healthy way. Tournaments will be held within our school on a reasonable occasion, this is how we will determine the best of ourselves. Although there are many players from last year that have proved their worth, new talent would be much appreciated.
By the end of the year, we’d have a list of our players we’d expect to be competing well in HSEL’s Winter Blitz, the only thing you need is talent or the ability to adapt. This will be Doherty’s first time competing so many would like to see an impact. “We’d win state, especially in Smash” sematary claimed, “as for our region, it all just depends on who enters from the west.” CalebG won the western region’s Spring Championship, sematary expects to receive the same results as him.
If this takes off, this’ll be happening again next year as well, all this competing isn’t just only for fun, but scholarships are also on the menu for top performers in HSEL. The first club meeting will be on October 11th, hosting a tournament for the first day, which will last until about 4:30 pm. This will be the kick starter for the rankings, which will be modified by future tournaments until Winter break.
