Softball is a very competitive sport and it’s a hard one too. But is it an individual sport?
Softball is a team sport where all the players have to work together and not against each other, or your team won’t win games. On Doherty’s Softball team there are a lot of very new girls that have not played softball, Coach Brian Trujillo said, “The leaders on the team are the seniors, Payton Cordova and Anahlina Saiz and the junior Cayla Baker.”
We asked most of the team one question, what do you love most about the team? The first person we asked was freshman Ashlyn Massey. She said, “I love how our older girls protect the younger girls.”
The next person we interviewed was senior Payton Cordova. Her number on the softball team is number 10 what she said to this question is: “We are one big family,” and said, “We pick each other up if we make mistakes.”
Another person we asked was junior Cayla Baker. She said, “We have very good team dynamics, and we are well rounded.” This means that the team works really well together and has a good of skills and strengths, and everyone contributes in a positive way, making it easier to collaborate and achieve goals.
Another person we interviewed is a ninth grader Sophia Jaramillo, she said, “She loves how we are coming together as one.” This means that the team is connecting really well.
Lastly, the person we asked was a tenth grader named Shea Trujillo, she said, “We stay positive even though were losing.”
Something to remember about the softball team is there are 17 players on the roster, and the season is more than just the wins, the strikeouts, and losses. Coach Brian Trujillo said, “There has been a huge improvement throughout the team, but it has been a roller coaster, but I hope for next year is to improve off season and translate that to wins.”
