As the end of high school football season is slowly but surely approaching, the weather has gotten colder while players have gotten even more determined. The Doherty football team has played an overall total of 8 games so far, with only two more left in the season. The players are pumped and excited to give the last two games their all and finish their season off with a win.
In the past month, the Spartans have played Cheyenne Mountain, Pueblo West, Montrose, and Falcon High School. They have gone 2-2 over the last month resulting in their current 4-4 win/loss record. They will be going into a game against Mesa Ridge soon and players are hopeful to avenge themselves. The home game against Mesa last year resulted in a 28-0 loss, leaving the players ready for a comeback against that team, and players are striving towards getting it this year.
In their game against Cheyenne Mountain, the Spartans scored a 35-21 victory during the team’s homecoming game. The players were left feeling satisfied about their drive and determination in the game after their win. With all victories come losses as well though, and unfortunately the next week they fell to Pueblo West at a home game with a final score of 56-14.
The Spartans took a team bus and traveled the next week to Montrose and played increasingly better than the week before, but still met defeat in a tough battle to a score of 56-27. Coming off two tough losses now, the Spartans were determined to beat the Falcons at their next game on the Spartans home turf. The Spartans fought hard and did end up beating the Falcons with a finishing score of 52-0.
Now, the Spartans are hoping to take this momentum they have built on the road with them to Mesa Ridge and leave with a win again. Players have been hard at work battling through injuries from previous games and training hard to prepare for it. Middle Linebacker Levi Colvin was asked about how he deals with injuries he said, “The injuries from previous games suck, but I usually just push through them and ignore the pain.”
