In the world we live in now, is it even safe for kids to go trick or treating? Trick or treating has been a huge tradition for almost a hundred years, where kids go around in a costume knocking on doors and saying trick or treat for candy, but in our generation trick or treating isn’t safe anymore.
In 2022, according to DEA.gov fentanyl was the new “trend” where people would buy fentanyl and candy and lace the candy. How would you even tell it’s fentanyl, the candy is sealed and closed and it blends right in. Freshman Jalen Jones said, “Kids in 5th grade and under should be allowed to go trick or treating, but only with a legal guardian there.”
He also stated, “Kids should just go trick or treating for fun and not eat the candy because they could get drugged.”
Jalen Jones made a good point because you never know what the people in the world can do to candy or anything else you are given. Halloween should be a safe thing for kids to enjoy, but instead people in the world changed. From kidnapping to getting laced and even more, is it even worth going trick or treating or should you just buy candy for your kids and stay inside?
Freshman Vanessa Defrates stated, “It’s honestly just worth buying candy and keeping your kids safe rather than taking the risk of something happening to them.”
She also stated, “I mean if you want your kid to go trick or treating, I would say they could go with adult supervision, and parents should check the candy before the kids eat it.” Be smart and listen to the DHS students. We care.
