Thanksgiving is not just about all the delicious food, but it’s about being thankful for everything that is provided to you, and what and who is in your life. Thanksgiving started in November 1621. Wikipedia states “The modern-day Thanksgiving Day in the U.S. is a federal holiday for Americans to give thanks as the pilgrims did with their Native American neighbors after their first harvest in Plymouth.”
Thanksgiving is a holiday to set aside time to be with your family and all your loved ones while enjoying a good meal with them. Freshman Jordan Francis Runge stated, “I like the food and when my family comes to my house.” We also asked what he does on Thanksgiving and he said that he eats dinner and spends the day with his loved ones. He also said Thanksgiving originated from the pilgrims. He isn’t wrong, the first Thanksgiving is where the pilgrims and the Canadians made peace and sat down and ate a meal together.
We also interviewed another 9th grade student Gustavo Chevez Hernadez and asked him what he likes to do on Thanksgiving. He stated, “I like spending time with my family and eating a meal with them.” He said he doesn’t do anything special for Thanksgiving. We also talked about where he thinks Thanksgiving came from and he said the pilgrims and Canadians. Everyone says that but do they really know the entire backstory on Thanksgiving? The back story is kind of long, but it is where a national holiday started.
Thanksgiving is an annual holiday in the United States and also in Canada. Thanksgiving day is to celebrate harvest and more blessings of the past years. Thanksgiving started in 1621 where they shared a meal with the English colonists also known as the pilgrims. The original Thanksgiving meal included turkey. Potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, and pumpkin pie. Ever since then Thanksgiving has been a big holiday celebrated with family and friends.
