Fast food restaurants are everywhere you look. Fast food has become our way of eating quick and easy without having to cook. Now with technology, you are able to sit at home, pick up your phone, and order food to your house with only a lift of your finger. You could also go through drive thrus for quick pick up, without getting out of your vehicle. Doherty High School is surrounded by several different fast food restaurants and because of that high school students go off campus almost every day for lunch and spend tons of money.
We went around and interviewed Doherty students that are sophomores through seniors and asked three questions about their fast food habits. Our questions for these students were, ¨How often do you eat fast food, how much money do you spend, and what is your favorite fast food restaurant and meal?
We interviewed five sophomores at Doherty, including Amaya Potter. She said, “At least everyday and I spend a good $100 a week at least, and my favorite fast food restaurant is Chipotle, and my favorite meal from there is a bowl.”
Sophomore Miah Petty said, “Once or twice a week, too much, my favorite is Wingstop and I get barbecue boneless.”After Miah we interviewed Ellie Ross who shared, “[I go] three or four times a week, I don’t buy it, and Chick-fil-a is my favorite.”
Our second to last sophomore we interviewed was Aiyana McFarlane. She said, “Everyday, [I spend] about 20 dollars a day, and my favorite is Chinese food.” Lastly we interviewed sophomore Antonio McColl. He said, “Not that much, not that much, Chick-fil-a.”
Now we moved on to interviewing the juniors. Junior Kayla Blackburn said, “Not very often, five dollars, I like Chick-Fil-a and I like to get a spicy deluxe chicken sandwich.” Next is JaDeveon Ikener. He said, “Like one a week, I spend like 20 bucks, my favorite Raising Cane’s chicken sandwich combo.”
Then we interviewed Junior Yaslin Seguinot. She said, “I pretty much kinda eat it like three times a week. It’s pretty bad, I spend a lot of money. I can’t even give you an amount. My favorite fast food place is Sonic because I like the pretzel bites thing or whatever or um Taco Bell. I love getting Crunchwrap Supremes.” Last but not least is Aliyah Russell. She said, “[I go out] like a couple times a week. [I spend] like 30 dollars. [My favorites are] Chick Fil A and that chicken sandwich meal”
According to thebarbecuelab.com, the average person spends $1,200 dollars a year just on fast food, so imagine how much high school students spend in the same amount of time while surrounded by so many different fast food options. Fast food is one of the most normalised parts of our society, everywhere you turn there is some type of fast food restaurant some just a block away from each other. Every generation after 1916 has had the experience of fast food, causing it to be one of the most popular things in the world.
