Getting ready in the mornings is a challenge. Some people have their time all figured out, while others struggle to be on time. Among a group of sophomores and juniors, the morning routine was an interesting time and challenge.
Junior Spencer Hoogeboom was one of those who had his routine down. “I normally wake up around 6:30 if I’m not showering. I get up, do my hair, then put my clothes on and brush my teeth. I leave the house at 7:10.” Yet, no matter how good he had his morning figured out, there was always one slow down to his morning which was his mom. “She doesn’t get ready on time, and I’m always waiting for her to finish.”
Junior Kayla Blackburn had a morning mix of chaos. “I wake up at 5:30 or 6, take a shower, brush my teeth, and get dressed. I lay in bed a little bit, watch TikTok, put on perfume and stuff, then start my car up before leaving at 7:05.”
Junior Diana Johnson, however, had a more relaxed approach. “I wake up at 6:15. To begin with, I get in the shower to wake up, then I brush my teeth. If my lashes are already done, I don’t have to do my makeup. Then, I get dressed and make my bed. Usually, I’ll just take a protein shake. I make sure my sisters are ready because I wake up everybody in the house. I leave at 6:45, and I am either late because of my boyfriend or his mom.”
Junior Sarah Gregg had a routine that depended entirely on her mood. “To be honest, it depends on what time I want to wake up. Sometimes I wake up at 6:45, sometimes at 6:15. When I do wake up, it’s just hard to get up in the morning. I get in the shower, do my teeth and face, get dressed, and sometimes do my hair. Then, I go clean up my room and get my dog ready, set up her bed and all that, then I just leave, and if I’m on time I leave at 7:00. But my sister is normally the reason why I run late.”
Amaya Potter who was a sophomore, had a love and hate relationship with her hair in the morning. “I wake up at 5:00, get in the shower, do my hair, then brush my teeth and wash my face. After I get dressed, I put on shoes and eat, then leave, like, at 7:00. Bro, my hair and I be beefing in the morning.”
Sophomore Miah Petty admitted to struggling with waking up. “I wake up at 6 AM, okay, so I get in the shower, then brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed, put on my shoes. Then I leave at 7:00.”
Kameryn Baggett who is a sophomore, had a schedule just as precise. “I wake up at 6:15, brush my teeth, put on clothes first, then brush my hair and wash my face. Then I leave at 7:00.”
Cecilia Zuniga who is a sophomore, on the other hand, was an early bird. “[I get up] usually around 5, I take a shower, brush my teeth, wash my face, get dressed you know, all that.” If she was on time, she’d even get a quick breakfast. “Probably around 7:10, I’m just trying to find an outfit.”
Despite their differences, one thing was clear: Getting ready in the morning was a challenge for everyone in some way. Some had mastered getting ready on time and figuring their morning out, while others still struggled with alarms, outfits, and tiredness. But no matter how chaotic or calm their mornings were, they all had one thing in common: They made it out the door, one way or another.
