The end of the year is almost here! Summer fun and splashing in a cold pool is right around the corner. Best friends, lovers, and families will all start to plan what they are gonna do this summer. Colorado Springs offers lots of fun and cheap activities. Whether you like swimming or gazing off into the distance at beautiful one of a kind mountains, there are enough activities to provide enough memories for a lifetime.
Many students have activities that play over into the summer months and it requires time and patience. Athletic programs that go into the summer can be both helpful and fun. Nariyah Patera said,”I’ll do some cheer things and if not I’ll hang out with my family.” Doherty offers many school activity programs the lead over into the summer. This helps student athletes become better at their sport and practice more. According to Spooky Nook Sports, preparing athletically for a sport over the summer can help students improve, build confidence, learn team skills, and so much more.
Colorado summers can bring a lot of sun. One of the most popular activities to do during the summer is to go swimming. Whether students swim at the YMCA or an outside pool, swimming can be very calm and relaxing. Swimming is also very healthy and good for humans, according to the Independent health system,”The rhythmic motion of swimming, combined with water’s soothing properties, can calm the mind. Swimming releases endorphins, the body’s natural feel-good chemicals, promoting relaxation and reducing stress and anxiety levels’. Swimming is a stress reliever and a good way to burn calories to get a summer body.
Many people in high school also have jobs and work over the summer. Jobs are great for high school students to learn responsibility and make money. With many students having busy schedules during the school year with school work, family time, hobbies, and for most sports, that leaves students with summer time to get a job. There are many skills a job can provide students and teenagers, pacareer linked states, ”having a job can help a teen grow, there are some meaningful skills they can gain from the experience.” Students also get bored over the summer and jobs can give them lots of responsibilities.
While there is a lot of focus on what students here at Doherty will be doing over the summer, a lot of students have plans to be with families to get sun and have some summer fun. Lots of teachers also want to enjoy time with their family. Admin assistant Kerstin Gokey said,” I’m just gonna relax, I’m gonna go paddle boarding, and go visit my daughter in Austin Texas.” Family time is always important but it is fun and special to visit or connect with family that has been distant. For many people their family is the most important thing to them but sadly family time can get lost very easily when there’s a lot of things going on like school or work. Doherty freshman Payton Margerum said,”I’m gonna do marching band and gonna go on a cruise with family.” Being with family can mean a lot.
There are many things to do over the summer for students and a lot of them also have some benefit to them. Whether it be that students develop skills, muscles, memories, healthier actions, or responsibility, students do develop over the summer. Not everyone is useless over the summer, many have a good routine for their summer vacation. With summer right around the corner, it’s time for students to start planning what they want to do over the summer. It will be here before we know it!
