Are you counting down the days until school’s out? Well, our seniors here at Doherty certainly are. With summer just around the corner, everyone’s getting excited. However, as the school year comes to a close, we’re also preparing to say goodbye to our graduating seniors. These students have contributed to our school in countless ways, leaving a lasting impact on both others and the school as a whole.
We asked a few seniors about their overall experience at Doherty High School. Here are some of the responses we received.
One of our seniors, Devin Todd, said that he had a very welcoming experience. He says, “Everyone was nice, there was no bullying, and the school has offered me the right tools for me to be able to graduate.” While being here, he wishes that he challenged himself more, saying, “I wish I took more AP classes.” Devin also says, “I like being a senior because you have more freedom and you can get more free periods. It just helps with all of the work.” Between his freshman year and senior year, he says, “I was nervous when I was a freshman but when I became a senior, I was more confident and I stopped caring about other people’s opinions.”
Like our other senior, Bella Hunsucker says, “I had a good experience because I got to get the classes I wanted and I got to hang out with my friends.” She is ready to graduate and thought it was enjoyable learning at Doherty. Bella says, “I really enjoyed having easy classes and doing choir.” She also says, “I think freshman year was harder because I only had core classes but I wished I could’ve met and talked to more people.”
Senior Lani Hodge said, “I had a great experience because I got to make new friends and they have great classes at Doherty.” She also thinks “I am ready to graduate because I have met all the requirements and I know I’m prepared for college.” Lani says, “I like being a senior because I get to have free periods and have more access to a lot of classes.΅ She thinks that freshman year had less classes and shorter school day compared to my senior year but she says, “I wish I had more knowledge in classes to be more ready for whatever I need to know.”
Another senior Chloe Mazurek said, “It was shocking to be here. I didn’t really know what I was doing.” She told me that she enjoyed being a part of the marching band semi finals and winter guard. She says, “I was very irresponsible my freshman year but I needed to get my act together to be able to graduate. Along with this Danny Truong said, “Yes, I’m so ready to graduate, and this school is amazing but I have to move on. I enjoyed all my friendships that I made and the teachers here are awesome.” Danny is one of our seniors that help in the theatre department. He to told me “I was really confused in my freshman year and I didn’t know what to do.
All of the seniors here at Doherty have achieved their goals and reached the expectations they needed to meet and that they made for themselves. Doherty is going to greatly miss the seniors that are graduating, as we are all so proud and happy for them. We can’t wait for what they have coming for them in the future.
