Each day brings a new theme, and it’s amazing how creative and spirited students can be when they dress up. The energy builds throughout the week, creating memories that will last long after school. Homecoming isn’t just about the game or the dance, it’s about tradition, unity, and celebrating what it means to be part of Doherty.
Doherty High School is gearing up for its 51st annual homecoming, and this year’s theme is “Spiderman: No Way to Hoco,” this dance promises a fun, exciting, and memorable week for all students. From spirit days to the big dance, a celebration of Spartan pride and community. While some students may think Homecoming isn’t for them, there are so many reasons why every student should take part in the events, especially the dance. It’s not just about dressing up or dancing, it’s about being part of something bigger. As sophomore Olivia Jordan states, “I think students should participate in Hoco because you’re not in your high school years forever.” Homecoming is a once a year chance to make your high school memories last forever. As one teacher Karin Rose said, “Students should participate in Homecoming because it’s an experience you’ll never have.” High school goes by real fast, and Homecoming is one of the events that you’ll look on and actually be glad you didn’t miss it.
The dance will take place in the cafeteria, which is getting a superhero style transformation thanks to the hard work of the student council. They’ve also organized all of the spirit week, from themed dress-up days to pep rallies that hype everyone up for the football game and the dance. Spirit week gives every student a chance to show off Doherty pride, even if you’re in sports, clubs, or just want to have fun with your friends. This helps everyone feel more connected to their school and each other. As one sophomore John Runnells said, “Students should participate in Homecoming because it’s a great time to be part of the Doherty community.” Even if you’re a freshman joining Doherty for the first time or even a senior celebrating your final year of high school, there’s something for everyone.
The excitement doesn’t just end with spirit days or the game, the dance is where everything comes together. With music, fun lights, and a room full of Doherty students, the homecoming day is a night to remember. It is the perfect way to finish off the week and have a great time with your friends. And even if you think dancing isn’t your thing, you might just be surprised by how much fun it is just to be in the environment. High school goes by real fast, and Homecoming is one of the events that you’ll look on and actually be glad you didn’t miss it.
