Ja Kobi Cockerham: I am an 18 year old senior who goes to Doherty High School. I throw shot put, and love to work out. In the photo of me, I have some tattoos on my spine. I recently got these tattoos, they are the ancient African symbols of strength, courage, intelligence, wisdom, impenetrability, independence. These tattoos are important to me because they represent all the parts of myself that I would love to share with the world. At first I was forced into weight lifting for football, but over time it became an outlet for me to control my emotions, stay in shape, and to love myself. I have been influenced by my mom. When I was born, my mom worked two jobs to keep a roof over my head and food on the table. After seeing her work so hard to make sure that I was bigger than the small town I was born in, I wanted to use that same effort to spread love to everyone around me, even if they didn’t show me love back. In the future I plan to become a theoretical physicist who works in string theory and quantum mechanics.
