Spartans Coming in with Full Force

Winter sports have begun. The Spartans are so excited to get started! The main thing DHS is focused on is safety. Basketball will only be allowed two spectators per player. Hockey and wrestling have the same guidelines regarding spectators. But hockey will not be permitted spectators if they are at the World Arena. Swim and dive have complicated procedures and will be up to the facility, but Mrs.Leasure is working to find out more about that. Basketball will kick off their season on Monday, January 25th, at Bear Creek high school. Mrs. leasure has said she doesn’t know if  Bear Creek will be allowing any spectators because some counties have different guidelines. On the positive side, many are happy to be back. “I am excited to be back in the gym with everyone and play the game I love. I missed it,” said Brooke Mansanares. Tuesday, January 26th, will be the first boys wrestling meet at Discovery Canyon. Thursday, January 28th, will be the first home swim meet, boys and girls wrestling will also be competing at Vista Ridge, and boys basketball who will be at Coronado. Hockeys first game will be on January 30th vs. Castle view. Another happy athlete to be back is Aurora Henson (dive). “I am so glad to be back and diving! It is great to see friends and improve my skills.”

On another note, sports seasons, C and D will be shortened from 10 to 7 weeks. Many are waiting for clearance to start up preseasons at the school. Masks are going to be enforced to keep everyone safe. Multi-sport athletes won’t participate in other preseasons if they’re in another sport during the sports season to reduce contact. “I am excited and grateful that students can compete, albeit in odd and sometimes frustrating circumstances,” said Mrs.Leasure. We all wish you good luck, Spartans!
