Are you interested in applying for colleges, scholarships, or internships, but do not know where to start? Do you want help applying for future classes? The room formerly known as the Spartan Room, near the main staircase downstairs, is being remodeled to be the District 11 Future Center, a college and career space where Doherty students can visit and receive help in researching colleges, finding scholarships, and exploring options for their future. The room is available at any time and to any student.

The Spartan Room is being completely renovated with fresh paint, new furniture, and a new layout for the whole room. There will also be a TV monitor in the room for presentations, as well as advertising upcoming events for Doherty. This new space will offer a comfortable, welcoming environment for all Doherty students to find help for their futures.

The Future Center will offer help in researching and applying for colleges, applying for scholarships, job shadow opportunities, work-based learning, internships, apprenticeships, and different career opportunities. This can also help students enroll in high school classes that may offer college credits.

Students can “[explore] future options and goals and [have] in depth postsecondary conversations with the College and Career Counselor, me!” says College and Career Counselor Andrew Huggins. Events such as guest speakers, FAFSA events, college visits, work-based learning information sessions, and military recruiting events, may also be available.

This room is leaned more towards junior and senior students who are thinking about college, but it is available to freshman and sophomores to use as well.
