In 2023 many good rap albums were released that had a chance of winning a Grammy. However, none stuck out like “Micheal” by Micheal Santiago Render also known by his stage name Killer Mike. This album has 14 songs with a playtime of 53 minutes. This album is his sixth studio album, and it was released on June 16th, 2023. Mike, in an interview with Zane Lowe, a DJ from New Zealand, described the album as being influenced by gospel, soul, funk, and hip-hop. Many other artists are on this album with some of the most well-known being Andre 3000, Young Thug, Future, Ty Dolla Sign, and 2 Chainz. 

Many people who tuned into the Grammys were outraged when they learned that “Utopia” by Travis Scott did not win Album of the Year. Some people, however, believe that it was a good decision, “people need to realize that the Grammys aren’t a popularity contest, if anyone other than Travis wrote Utopia no one would listen to it,” said freshman Kaleb Brandon.  

The night did not end too well for Killer Mike, however. After winning threegram Grammys in quick succession, he was detained by a security guard. As you can imagine the Grammys left many confused and wanting answers for what happened that night. The most we have right now is a statement from Mike himself stating, “We experienced an over-zealous security guard but my team and I have utmost confidence that I ultimately will be cleared of my wrongdoing,” a quote from NBC News. Micheal will appear in court on February 29th with a high chance of winning.  

In all Killer Mike had a crazy night winning three Grammys and getting detained by a security guard. Many people are mad that he won Rap Album of the Year against so many high-regarded albums while some think winning is a good way to end off his career.
