The show Hazbin Hotel was released on Amazon Prime January 18th of 2024, but how is this long-awaited release? Hazbin Hotel is an animated musical TV series created by Vivenne Medrano, better known as Vivziepop online, based around the lives of “sinners” in the afterlife, following the main character, Charlie, trying to tackle the issues between the two worlds of the afterlife. The plot of this show is Charlie’s creation of the Hazbin Hotel, in which the goal is to help these sinners become redeemed to become angels, the conflict becoming a distaste from the angels to help these demons become good when they already messed up and wasted their chances to be good people.

This show has some well-known voice actors in its cast including Keith David, most well known as the voice of Dr. Facilier in “The Princess and the Frog” and Alex Brightman known for playing Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice the Musical” as well as other Broadway roles. A well-known cast backing these characters certainly is an attractive attribute to any series. Throughout the show, you get to see characters develop both in negative and positive ways, climbing and overcoming struggles they suffered with and growing as characters. These developments allow for a lovable line up of protagonists and a lineup of hateable antagonists. Regardless of preference of character type this show has well developed and designed heroes and villains.

Hazbin Hotel covers many genres, comedy and drama being the most prevalent. While humor is subjective and everyone finds different things funny, this show is dependent on crude, vulgar humor. There is not a whole lot of creativity in terms of its humor and jokes as the majority is just crude humor, this being the shows biggest critique. The unoriginality in the jokes can be a deal breaker for some with interest in watching the show, so in the case of a dislike for humor like this, this is not something I would recommend. As for the dramatic pieces of this series, there is a delightful story as well as hints of romance which is a strong suite of the show. There are many aspects that can be related to, and the drama allows the viewer to get into the story and stay invested.

The soundtrack of this show is sweeping the internet’s attention, several songs from the series have been trending on platforms such as TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. The songs “Poison,” “Loser, Baby” and “Hells Greatest Dad” are all songs that have been extremely popular around the internet, all having more than 35 million listens on Spotify alone. These songs have heavy influence from modern pop and some influence from modern day Broadway. The soundtrack is one of the best parts of the series, and it helps add to the development of the story through these songs and musical bits.

Hazbin Hotel overall is a good show, from its pilot release back in October of 2019 to the full Amazon Prime release, it is a good show, while of course not for everyone, people who have interest in the topics this show focuses on, this would be a perfect watch.
