Sabrina Carpenter, a pop artist and an actress dominating the charts, released her new “Short n’ Sweet” album on August 23rd and it is certainly sweet! The album has 12 songs that seem to allude to her past short relationships that were difficult and somewhat sweet (you see what she did there?). With the release of the album, she had excellent promotion by teaming up with Instagram to change notes relating to her or the album making them light blue with a kiss on the corner of them that people went crazy for.
On the Billboard Hot 100, multiple songs from the album have been on the charts for more than 50 weeks, with “Espresso” being her hottest song, charting for 21 weeks and currently sitting at the third hottest song this week, But “Please Please Please” rose in popularity quickly, and was the first song to take the #1 spot on Billboard Hot 100. Compared to her other albums, Short n’ Sweet is the most popular and it grew with incredible speed.
The hot song, “Please Please Please” which has 769,175,392 Spotify streams, perfectly captures the love and fear surrounding a relationship, which seems like the entire point of the album. From the very beginning of the song, it’s immediately relatable with the lyrics, “I know I have good judgment, I know I have good taste It’s funny and it’s ironic that only I feel that way,” because let’s be honest if you have one too many bad relationships, your friends aren’t trusting the next one. She mentions not wanting to be humiliated and having her fears proved right so she tries to persuade her lover to stay in privacy with her to prevent any behavior that could make the headlines and embarrass her anyway.
Sabrina also has a well-deserved big ego; I mean c’mon have you seen her? She knows she’s amazing and she shares it in her song, “Espresso.” With 1,180,273,796 Spotify streams, obviously, people are really feeling this song. In this song she is literally saying she is so sweet that she has him wide awake like espresso coffee. If that’s not ego I don’t know what is. She also devoured with her pre-chorus on this one saying, “Too bad your ex don’t do it for ya (Mm) Walked in and dream-came-trued it for ya.” I feel it’s an amazing line to say I was your dream come true the second you saw me.
Overall, the album is simply a masterpiece. I think the differences in mood and feelings make this album more relatable because in a relationship no one ever feels just one emotion during it or after it. I think this album will definitely be hard for her to top, but I never say never. If you haven’t listened to it yet I really recommend giving it a try of course it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but you never know until you try, right?
