Doherty Welcomes Five English Teachers

From left to right: Nicole Sketers, Mitchell Krueger, Sarah List-Wallace and Jen Scott. These four joined the Doherty English team this year. Both List-Wallace and Sketers did their student teaching here. “I love to see the “We before me” attitude amongst both students and staff,” said Nicole Sketers.

This year has introduced many new teachers to departments all across the school. For the next few months we will be interviewing new teachers. This month we chose to interview new English teachers.

  • Eloise Hastings is new to the Spartan Center and Writing Center. Both centers are used to help freshmen with their grades. “Success is not final; failure is not fatal, said Eloise Hastings, quoting Winston Churchill.

What subject did you major in?
Nicole Sketers: English Education
Eloise Hastings: Social Work for my undergraduate and ESL for my graduate degree.
Jen Scott: BA in Sociology and a Masters in Education with a reading emphasis.
Sarah List-Wallace: English
Mitchell Krueger: I majored in English with an emphasis in literature for my undergraduate. I am now pursuing a graduate degree in Education.

What in specific do you like about Doherty?
Nicole Skeeters: I love to see the “We before me” attitude amongst both students and staff.
Eloise Hastings: I like our motto “We Before Me”
Jen Scott: I like the sense of community and being part of a supporting team. Additionally, “We Before Me” philosophy deeply resonates with me. I see “We Before Me” demonstrated by students and staff alike on a daily basis and I am impressed with the team spirit displayed regularly.
Sarah List-Wallace: The staff is amazingly supportive and willing to go above and beyond to help.
Mitchell Kreuger: I like Doherty is the faculty. I have a few friends here from when I was earning my undergraduate degree.

Why did you choose to apply at Doherty?
Sarah List-Wallace: I student taught here last year, and I fell in love with the school.
Jen Scott: After 20 years of teaching middle school, I was ready for a change. Doherty has always been my gold standard, and I knew I could make a positive impact on students by being part of the Doherty community.
Eloise Hastings: Last year, I was working in elementary school and missed high school students.
Nicole Skeeters: ”I did not want to leave Doherty once I came here! I conducted my student-teaching at Doherty last year. I could not have finished my student-teaching without all of the wonderful mentors and the support they gave me!”
Mitchell Kreuger: I applied to Doherty because I was tired of applying online, which I did do for a few school. Doherty was the only one where I could apply in person. It was refreshing to not fill out paperwork online.
